Workshop on Leading Strategies in Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturing at University of Aveiro in Portugal

At the invitation of the University of Aveiro (UAVR), the PATh/IL2BioPro/mVACCIL Workshop took place in hybrid format (in person and online meeting) in Portugal on June 2nd, 2022. The one-day series of lectures, presentations and discussions on leading strategies in biopharmaceuticals manufacturing was hosted by Mara Freire of CICECO Institute of Materials, who has the lead of Yscript Work Package 3, being responsible for setting up an integrated extraction and purification process of bioproduced mRNA.

The organising committee of the University of Aveiro welcomed external participants from several countries. Among others, Yscript coordinator Prof. Chantal Pichon from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the University of Orléans (France) was present and gave interesting insights into mRNA-based vaccines in her lecture. Also, Yscript colleagues from the University of Beira Interior (UBI, Portugal) took part in the workshop. Prof. Fani Sousa (UBI) contributed an informative lecture on amino acids as a tool for DNA and RNA purification. The line-up of international workshop participants from biotechnology research also included scientists from Brazil.
